Welcome

This is what ADHD looks like

JUNE PHOTO JOURNAL

I decided the best way to display the roller coaster of the past month would be with a plethora of images from the life of Aurora.

Left: Aurora has a bag of tiny animals in her room. I did not buy them, and I don’t know where she got them. She claims they are hers. I have no idea what to do with them. Center: Aurora wants to learn to sew. She is too impatient to learn, and I am too lacking in sewing knowledge to help her. So I expect this sewing machine to just go on sitting here…just like this. Right: A teapot lid from her very special tea set has been broken. I tried to toss out the pieces, but was promptly put in my place by a furious Aurora. So here the pieces sit, on display in her bedroom.

Left: I have never seen this child happier than when she is camping in the woods. Center: The blanket sneaked its way onto our hike. I’m still shaking my head and rolling my eyes. Right: I have no idea how Aurora got to where she is in this picture. Maybe sheer determination.

Things Aurora LOVES

Top left: Aurora loves to bake and generally does a good job…as long as she follows ALL the directions. Bottom left: Aurora and Miri love to build. They are quite creative and prefer not to follow any directions. Right: I sometimes wish she had a little more fear of creepy crawlies. Ugh.

Left: Aurora built a fort in her room. And yes, that blanket is nailed to the wall. You know the book, Where the Wild Things Are? Well, I totally relate to that mother. Center: Aurora wanted to paint her room yellow. She loved painting but was too impatient to actually remove the light switch and outlet covers beforehand. So…I guess that switch cover is staying there for eternity. Right: This was Aurora’s solution to feeling too hot: an ice pack on her head.

Left: When you can’t come up with the solution to a math problem, you draw a picture. What happens when you get so distracted by the picture, you never solve the problem? Perhaps she is a budding cartoonist. Center: Do I fix her posture and positioning while she practices the piano or let it go? Choose your battles, folks. At least she is practicing. Right: I dictated a sentence and then asked Aurora to label the parts of speech. This is what ADHD looks like. I ended up labeling the parts of speech as she dictated them to me. I’m not sure if that was the best approach, but once again, you choose your battles.
